If you plan to visit your local Target this week you may notice something a little different.
In anticipation of Mario Kart 8 being released for Nintendo Switch Friday (April 28), over 650 target stores have undergone a Mario Kart-themed makeover. The makeover is headlined by a number of the stores’ carts, or “Super Target Karts,” being made to look like Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach’s kart from the actual video game.
This decoration marks the first time in company history that Target has changed the look of their signature red shopping carts.
While the carts may be the coolest part of the makeover, these select Target stores will also have their red bollards transformed into Mario and Luigi themselves. The stores’ doors will also be made to look like the game’s official starting line.
“Experience counts – it’s what keeps guests coming in and coming back to our stores,” said Scott Nygaard, senior vice president, Merchandising, Target, in a press release. “So we’re delivering the fun like only Target can, giving generations of Mario fans a shopping trip they won’t soon forget.”
The Switch is the just latest release in a long line of Nintendo gaming systems. It made its debut in March and has been a sought after commodity ever since.
