The Little Mermaid gets a different look in the first trailer of the new live-action film.

Friday (March 10), the first trailer for the live-action version of The Little Mermaid was released. This film is not a Disney production, like the soon-to-be released Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, but rather a work from Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions.

This version of The Little Mermaid is based on the 1837 fairytale from Hans Christian Andersen. It tells the story of a young girl and her older brother who both travel to a small Mississippi town to find a woman believed to be the real Little Mermaid.

Academy Award winning actress Shirley MacLaine will star in the film. She will be joined by Gina Gershon (Empire), William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Poppy Drayton (Downton Abbey).

The film is planned for a release at some point in 2017, but no specific date has been set.
